You have spent hours and have prepared a crisp, concise and smart resume. Is it still not doing the trick? Below are some common resume myths you could forego to turn things around.
1) One page resume will nail it
Well, yes, it is great to have a one page resume, but only for freshers. More experienced professionals will need more space to showcase their achievements properly. Also, one page doesn’t mean cramming 600 words in a page. Restrict yourself to about 380 words or lesser per page.
2) Targeted resumes are too restricted.
No way. Resumes are meant to target a job position and need to be objective. Having a resume which is too open ended will make you look directionless. It is essential to map your resume and skills to the target role to showcase yourself to the recruiter in the right light.
3) Setting your achievements in a separate paragraph is the right way to go
Honestly, a recruiter is interested in knowing your overall achievements. Setting achievements in a separate paragraph will only confuse the reader. A better idea would be to list your achievements and experience clearly under each position you have held.
4) Listing all your skills is necessary
Giving a list of your soft skills is a good idea but often one gets stuck in the trap of listing unnecessary skills without giving any quantifiable achievements.
Now that you know the facts, does your resume fit the bill?
